Georgia Jewel

It’s THAT time again…… things are gearing up for another full season of running, racing and VOLUNTEERING!

This is the 4th year the CCRC has sponsored an aid station for the Georgia Jewel. For those not familiar with the event, the race is September 27th & 28th and the participants will run distances of 35, 50 or 100 miles on the Pinhoti Trail. The 35 and 100 milers will begin at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center, running an out and back course while the 50 milers will do a point to point course that ends at the Trade Center.

We are looking for volunteers who are willing to devote a few hours to cover a shift at the aid station or if you insist, we’ll let you in on the fun for the whole weekend!!! I know… some of you are asking “What do I do? Where do I go?” The CCRC is responsible for the aid station at mile 17.5 located in the parking lot of Snake Creek Gap. We assist the runners to refill their hydration packs or bottles with water/Gatorade, prepare peanut butter sandwiches, turkey wraps, chips, etc. Once the 100 milers are coming back thru camp on their way to the finish, warm up a bowl of soup, prepare grill cheese sandwiches and keep the fire pit burning so the runners can warmup while they rest their feet. If you have never attended an ultra-race, I promise it is a great experience! You will not want to leave!!

For those of you who will be volunteering for the first time, the rewards will be great and the runners truly appreciate our aid station volunteers. Please let me know asap if you are interested in volunteering so that we can assure that these runners are well supported!

ALSO, we have been asked to flag a section of the course the week before the event. We hope to get enough volunteers so that each team would only be responsible for hiking approximately 6-8 mile sections. If you are available, we would appreciate the help!

Happy Running!
